Bridges to College - Volunteer Adviser Job Description

Job Description

Works one-on-one with high school juniors and seniors, as well as their parents, to help them through the career selection, college selection, college admission and financial aid processes.
Is assigned six students per year, and encouraged to give a two-year commitment to the program so he or she can work with the students as juniors and seniors.
Schedules meetings with the students at least once per month from October through May.
Maintains confidentiality about student meetings and records.
Keeps records of sessions.
Keeps executive director updated of progress.

Qualifications

Knowledge of the college admission and selection process. Training and handbooks are provided.
Ability to work with high school students from various backgrounds.
Computer and Internet knowledge.
Self-motivation.

Training Required

Adviser training in August and early September.
Background check required.

Time commitment

Six to eight hours per month.
